Editorial Review for Jay Peak Ski Resort – by Citysearch Staff
The Scene
Located near the Quebec border, it's a three- to four-hour haul from Boston, but at the end you'll find a white jewel full of value and the only peak in the east with a 60-passenger gondola. This is a powder hound's heaven, with so much snow it almost feels like you're out west.
The Slopes
To back up the natural stuff, 80 percent of the mountain is covered by snowmaking. Even better, you've usually got the whole place to yourself, which means the powder doesn't get skied off. Considering all that snow, it's no surprise that Jay has rewritten the book on off-piste tree skiing. It boasts 20 gladed trails and chutes where advanced and expert skiers and telemark fans can cavort. Runs like Jet and Northway make the whole mountain seem like a natural terrain park. The beginner trails aren't bad, either.
