The Scene
Lutsen offers four mountain peaks with 90 runs, plus rock-lined trails, awesome views, and it's right on Lake Superior at the edge of Superior National Forest. While it's no Colorado, Lutsen towers above its regional competitors, with slopes more than twice as high as anything you'll find within driving distance.
The Slopes
Expert skiers head straight to Moose Mountain, finding a challenge on the Plunge or North Face Couloirs. Intermediate skiers usually hit Eagle Mountain, with its long, cruising runs. Eagle's also a big hit with snowboarders, who flock to Sawtooth Ridge for a 400-foot half-pipe and terrain park. The ski school is closest to Ullr Mountain's easygoing runs. Mystery Mountain has long, winding trails, great for beginners and intermediates. The gondola makes short work of getting from the base of Ullr to near the summit of Moose. The mountain is also serviced by one surface tow and seven double chairlifts.

like most everyone else, I have spent many days at lutsen growing up in Mn. I have skied the Alps, Colorado, most of the U.P. and although there are many other places I would "rather" be skiing, Lutsen Does provide an opprtunity, albiet a small one, to get into some turns that you can't find in the twin cities. The value is not always good, however there are some good sales during the season if a person can be flexible in scheduling. The view is spectacular!
Pros: Lake Superior view, Gun flint tavern, I'm not at work
Cons: cost/value, snow conditions, too much run-out

After living in the Midwest for a number of years, than fortunate enough to live in Montana & Wyoming. I am now living in the Southeast. There is "NO WAY" I recommend Lutsen (ice/cold) Hill; over "ANY MOUNTAIN OR MOUNTAIN RANGE (powder/comfortable)" out west. Plus the skiing in the Carolinas also is iiiccceee, be careful out there ;)
Pros: Hot Totties, Warm Fireplace, Scandanavian Ladies
Cons: , COLD, HILL
