Steamboat is a beautiful place. I've never seen so much powder! I was there in January of 06. There was over 300 inches of snow. Powder everyday! Did I say they have powder? I will be back.

This resort as some of the lighest snow I have skiied on. I have been to most Colorado resorts plus Jackson Hole and Park City and this is the best snow. The Apre ski scene is great also. There is a bar right at the base of the mountain called Bear River and they have great live music daily. I think the musicians name when I was there was Shawn Allen plus some other guys. On top of all this the downtown scene had great food and more live music at night.

Pros: Parking, Free buses, easy to navigate

We go on a trip to Steamboat every year and it is always great. They are not as crowded as some of the other resorts, the employees are friendly, and there is a good variety of runs.

Nothing like the ads. Throws too many beginners and intermediates up the mountain to places they don't belong. And how 'bout the dumpy accomodations? Take a pass!!!

The terrain is not the steepest, but the skiing is fun and their are some challenging areas on the mountain. The snow is always great and there are a lot of sunny days during the winter. The town is cool and funky - overall a great ski vacation destination.

Pros: Great snow, lotsa sunny days

A little far to travel for day skiing for individuals living in Denver, but a great ski resort. Western Charm. Great slopes and special champaign snow...real fluffy type. I learned to ski here over twenty-years ago. You won't see jagged peaks but rounded mountains - nearby. You are here to ski and enjoy the Western Hospitality of the Town of Steamboat. Snow clings to Evergreen trees making it appear as a wonderland with blue skies and great skiing. Try ski jumping and nigh time "tubing" at near by establishments. A winter ski vacation to Steamboat is one for the memory books.

Pros: Champaign Snow, Western Feel

Cons: Scenery

We brought a group of four and stayed at one of the local condos. We were able to ski for three days and go night skiing. We also checked out some of the local towns and had a superb time. Would like to visit again.

Best powder east of jacksonhole Wy. the extra pass makes it less drive able and therefor less crowded. Can't wait to return to tear up the mountain. By the way. I run snowboarders over for fun.

Pros: no lines, great weather, billy the kid

Cons: ticket prices, extra mountain pass

I've lived in Steamboat all my life and although we've got our bad days when it comes to snow, it's still the best place!!! Except for when all of the tourists come and TAKE OVER! AGH! but our economy depends on you guys, so thanks! P.S. but don't ever live here because it's as boring as hell, in my opinion. It's nice to visit though. Damn I need to get outta this town

I grew up skiing in Steamboat and have always felt that it has a lot to offer those who visit. It has an extensive variety of runs and activities that there should be something for everyone to enjoy.

Pros: easy transportation, champaigne powder, great variety of runs

Editor's Review

Better snow earlier in the season gives this North Park Range resort an edge over more southern mountains.  See the full editorial review.
